The Islanders signed forward Ross Johnston to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

Johnston, who had been making $1 million annually under his old deal, has played in just one game for the Islanders this season, getting 5:50 of ice time in the opener against the Hurricanes. In six years, the 27-year-old hasn’t played more than 32 NHL games in a season, but has shown he can bring physicality and depth when in the lineup.

He will see a slight raise at $1.1 million average annual value under the new deal, per The Post’s Mollie Walker. He was in the last year of a four-year, $4 million deal he signed in 2018.

The Islanders, according to Cap Friendly, had about $1.5 million in space prior to the extension.

Johnston has 15 career points in 87 games in the NHL, averaging 8:31 time on ice during his career. The Islanders signed him in March 2015, and he worked his way through the ECHL and AHL before making his NHL debut in 2016.
