Barely 24 hours after Bo Horvat was named to Team Canada’s Olympic squad, an achievement for which he’s spent the year working, Horvat went up the tunnel with an apparent injury to his left side during the Islanders’ game against Utah.

Horvat got tangled up with Sean Durzi at the red line and came off the ice struggling to put weight on his left leg during the third period of the game.

He did not return to the eventual 7-2 loss, and coach Patrick Roy did not have an update on his status afterward.

“He’ll see the doctor tomorrow and I’m sure we’ll have more tomorrow or the day after,” Roy said.

Horvat missed five games in December with a lower-body injury, returning on Sunday against the Blue Jackets.

It’s not immediately clear whether this is the same injury.

With five weeks to go before NHL players leave for the Olympics, it’s also not clear whether this will affect Horvat’s availability for Milan.

The potential blow for the Islanders if he misses any time at all, though, would be a serious one given how they’ve struggled to score lately. Thursday was their ninth straight game with two goals or fewer, and Horvat is their leading scorer with 21 goals.
