While the Islanders flew off to Detroit to face the defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings, ownership tried to drum up interest in keeping the team on Long Island last night at a meeting at a hotel near Nassau Coliseum.

The Isles still don’t know where they’ll be in a few years. If owner Charles Wang doesn’t get the go-ahead from the community — and local politicians — on the Lighthouse project that he hopes to construct, whatever strides the rebuilding Isles make down the road may happen elsewhere.

Last night’s meeting was another attempt to prevent that from happening, but it’s clear Wang’s patience is wearing thin.
