Lemaire takes Bowman to task
Devils coach Jacques Lemaire said Scotty Bowman was “probably the best” at running a game, but he has issues with the style of the NHL’s all-time winningest coach.
“He was a different bird when he coached,” Lemaire said. “He was tough on the players, especially the young kids.
“I have to say he was probably the best guy behind the bench that I know. Some of his methods I didn’t care for, but he had a lot of success.”
Lemaire said he did not take a lot from Bowman’s coaching style.
“Not much,” Lemaire said. “There are some negative things, that I said, ‘If I was coach, I wouldn’t do this. I wouldn’t take them this way.’
“But he brought [three different] teams to the Cup with his ideas and you have to respect that.”
