A group of buyers, led by former Florida Panthers coach and Blue Jackets GM Doug MacLean, has agreed to purchase the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“Absolute zero thought of [moving the team],” MacLean said at a news conference following the sudden sale by Palace Sports and Entertainment, a group led by Detroit Pistons owner Bill Davidson.

“Typically,” MacLean said “you come into a situation where ownership has been an issue. [However,] we’re following a great ownership group that took the Tampa Bay franchise and really put it on the map.”

The Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004, before the following season’s lock-out.
