An NHL free agent, Dustin Penner had been scheduled to moonlight on TSN’s “TradeCentre” on Monday, analyzing and covering the league’s trade deadline. But after a few insensitive tweets, he may be a free agent in the TV business, too.

The 32-year-old, well-traveled veteran has been pulled from the Canadian show after tweeting “jokes” about consensuality within a relationship.

The Twitter response was swift, which Penner battled with the anecdotal, she-finds-it-funny defense.

Penner doubled-down, digging himself deeper into a rape-joke hole that amazes in its arrogant ignorance and disregard.

As the retweets piled up and TSN became aware of Penner using his “comedy” as a shield for insensitivity, the network responded to an angered tweeter, saying the winger who has spent time with Anaheim, Edmonton, Los Angeles and most recently Washington will not be on the air.

Penner, who played 18 games with the Capitals last season, eventually offered a half-hearted apology after his punishment had been meted out. While the words “I apologize” do appear, they’re marked by eye-rolling condescension.
