Pat Burns – the 56-year-old former Devils coach, who previously has fought colon and liver cancers – told a Montreal paper he is now dealing with lung cancer, but he continues to scout for the Devils in Florida.

“His spirits, his attitude, his demeanor, I don’t know anyone who could be better,” GM Lou Lamoriello said.

Burns serves as a special assignment coach with the Devils, after he stepped down to battle his initial colon cancer following the 2004 playoffs. He led the Devils to the 2003 Stanley Cup.
