The Islanders will open the season next Saturday, Jan. 19, at home against the Devils, a league source has told The Post.
The official NHL schedule will not be released until the Players’ Association ratifies the new collective bargaining agreement, which should happen as the union votes over the next day or two. If it happens that the players do not get the majority of the vote needed – almost an impossibility – then the proposed schedule is void.
It is slated to be the Islanders’ third-to-last home opener at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island, before the team moves to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn starting in the 2015-16 season.
