The King has a chance to keep his crown.

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, was named as one of the three finalists, the NHL announced Wednesday morning.

It is the fifth time Lundqvist had been named a finalist for the trophy, which is given annually to the best goaltender in the league. Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Antti Niemi of the San Jose Sharks were the other two finalists.

“It means a lot. I’m really proud and honored to be in that category,” said Lundqvist. “It’s been an interesting year, a different year. Shorter season, tight schedule and things maybe didn’t go our way all the time. We had to work really hard to get back in the race.

“Last year it felt like things were going our way. This year, we had to work really hard for it. Personally, maybe I had a little more highs last year, but the consistency this year is something I’m pretty pleased with.”

When asked what Lundqvist meant to the Rangers, coach John Tortorella said, “Everything.”

“As I’ve always said, [Lundqvist’s] the backbone of our club,” said Tortorella. “I think he’s a special athlete. Just how he plays, how he competes, he helps the team in front of him on how he plays, he forces the team in front of him to play the right way.”

Lundqvist tied for the NHL lead in wins, posting a 24-16-3 record with a 2.05 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. It was his eighth consecutive 20-win season, the longest streak among active players, leading to the Rangers seventh playoff appearance in that span.

Preparing for Game 4 Wednesday against the Capitals, Tortorella noted how much easier Lundqvist makes his job as a coach, never having to think about who he’ll put between the pipes.

“More and more teams kind of flip-flop their goalies and it’s nothing against the goalies that have been here behind him, but that doesn’t cross our mind,” said Tortorella. “He’s that good and that consistent. The thing I love about him is how he competes.”
