Well, the Rangers have yet again recalled Chris Kreider from the AHL Whale, this time in response to the right leg leg injury Brian Boyle sustained in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

The question is what will be the over/under regarding the number of shifts Kreider plays Thursday night against the Panthers before he’s benched by John Tortorella, the coach who has made it perfectly clear he does not believe the young left wing is ready for prime time?

Kreider scored one goal with three assists in six games for the Whale since his Apr. 3 reassignment to the AHL. The 21-year-old has played 17 games for the Rangers, recording two goals and one assist while getting uneven ice time.

Boyle, who suffered his injury late in the first period of Tuesday’s 4-2 defeat before leaving the ice for good at 14:03, underwent an examination on Wednesday. The Rangers have not provided an update regarding his condition, though No. 22 is expected to be sidelined for at least the immediate future.

The defeat to the 12th-place Flyers dropped the eighth-place Rangers into a tie with Winnipeg for the last playoff spot with 46 points, though the Blueshirts have six games remaining to the Jets’ five.

The defeat in which the Rangers all but sleepwalked through the first period prompted the club to hold a meeting following Wednesday’s practice. The session focused on the need to be mentally prepared from the outset for each remaining match.
