Like everyone else in the world, NHL players are just trying to keep themselves entertained during the stay-at-home order due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

During Friday’s Pacific Division video conference calls organized by the league, Ducks veteran captain Ryan Getzlaf stole the show with his new chicken coop project that he and his family have been working on. It surprisingly wasn’t the craziest thing mentioned throughout the call.

“I spent the last three days building a chicken coop in the backyard,” he said. “The wife wanted eggs the other day and we had no eggs, so we borrowed eggs from the neighbor who had chickens. And all of a sudden, we were having them. She just ordered six of them.”

Joined by Sharks captain Logan Couture, Kings captain Anze Kopitar and Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, Getzlaf took the video chat outside to see the chicken coop.

“That’s a coop and a half!” Kopitar joked.

Getzlaf kept the laughs going when he mentioned that he was watching his 9-year-old crash a golf cart into a tree.

There was lots of talk about the Netflix miniseries “Tiger King,” which was released on March 20. Couture mentioned that he was finishing up the HBO classic “The Wire,” which he said he started years ago and forgot about. And now he’s watching the hit drama “Six Feet Under.”

On the other captain’s call for the Western Conference, Flames defenseman Mark Giordano, Canucks center Bo Horvat, Oilers center Connor McDavid and Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson were asked what they missed the least about playing one another.

McDavid expressed how grateful he was not to be facing Horvat in the faceoff circle. However, Horvat felt McDavid had “roasted” him from the dot this season.

“I don’t know why everyone thinks they’re so quick, I think they’re actually kind of slow. Especially Connor,” Giordano quipped.

And while most players are seemingly keeping in touch with their teammates, Ekman-Larsson admitted that he had to leave the Coyotes group chat over “weird pictures.” Whatever that means.
