A look at three offseason targets each for the Rangers and Islanders:

Three Rangers targets

Alexis Lafreniere/K’Andre Miller

The Rangers have their in-house business at the top of their priority list, which is certainly headlined by key lineup regulars and restricted free agents Lafreniere and Miller.

An offer sheet for either would put the Rangers in an incredibly difficult spot, since they simply couldn’t afford to match.

Both players are expected to receive bridge deals, unless there’s something bigger in the works that would feature an immediate-impact return.

Noel Acciari

Coming off a one-year deal that carried a cap hit of $1.25 million, Acciari could be one of the Rangers few “splurge” options of the summer.

They’d probably like to keep that same price tag if possible, but Acciari would be a solid contributor.

Jimmy Schuldt

The Rangers probably want to add another depth defenseman to the mix, but it’ll have to be at a discount price.

Schuldt would presumably sign an affordable, two-way contract that would give the Rangers flexibility.

The left-handed 28-year-old has only competed in one NHL game, with the Golden Knights in 2018-19, though he’s generated production at the AHL level over the last four seasons.

Three Islanders targets

Scott Mayfield

The defenseman has been with the organization since he was drafted in 2011 and made no secret of his desire to stay.

But he could likely get more money and a bigger role elsewhere.

Pierre Engvall

Engvall’s line with Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri was the Islanders’ best down the stretch last season. Now they will try to keep it together.

Semyon Varlamov

The goaltender looks more straightforward to keep than Mayfield or Engvall, but may still require a bit more money than other potential backups.
