The Rangers are on the brink.
They fell, 3-2, to the Panthers in Game 5 Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
The series now shifts back to Florida as the Rangers look to keep their season alive.
The Rangers put forth a far better effort Tuesday night than they had two nights prior, or than they had two days prior to that. There was more battle, more possession, more chances. The ice did not feel tilted against them, at least for 40 minutes. But again, the best player on the ice was the goalie, and again, the Rangers did not do enough to help him out. The Rangers are on the brink.
They lost, 3-2, and now trail 3-2 in the series heading back to Florida.
The Rangers aren't dead yet.
Alexis Lafreniere scored with 49.7 seconds left to pull the Rangers within 3-2
The Rangers pulled Igor Shesterkin, but Sam Bennett scored an empty-net goal to put the Panthers up 3-1 with 1:52 left.
And just like that, the Rangers are trailing.
Anton Lundell scored to make it 2-1 10:22 into the third period.
The two team traded goals in the decond period, and enter the third period tied 1-1.
