NJ.com reports that Brent Sutter didn’t have Calgary on his mind when he resigned from the Devils, even though he became coach of the Flames less than three weeks later.
“When I resigned from the Devils I had no intention of coaching in the NHL next year,” Sutter told Rich Chere. “I resigned for family and personal reasons. I didn’t resign to coach somewhere else in the NHL. When another team got permission to talk to me, I listened.”
Though the Devils did not receive compensation from the Flames, they did trade with Calgary to move up in Friday’s draft to select center Jacob Josefson.
