Sources say former Devils coach Brent Sutter is close to becoming Flames coach under brother and Calgary GM Darryl Sutter.

Those sources say Sutter is under serious consideration by Flames ownership for the job that became vacant when Mike Keenan was fired May 22. Sutter resigned June 9 as Devils coach, citing a desire to be closer to his family and Red Deer Rebels junior team.

At the time of his resignation, Sutter claimed his only contact with Darryl Sutter had been on a family-ranch matter. He said he had not considered the Flames’ job, but would give it due consideration if it was presented.
