Kudos to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for exposing Democrats’ hypocrisy on Supreme Court vacancies.
Nationally, Dems are slamming Senate Republicans for refusing to consider a President Obama pick for Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat.
Christie scored by pointing out that Garden State Democrats have been refusing to consider his pick for a state Supreme Court seat . . . for six years.
To make the point, Christie renominated David Bauman — whom the state Senate refused to even give a hearing back in 2012.
“This nominee will not have a hearing, and the only way I will consider a Christie nominee is if the governor preserves judicial independence by submitting a Democrat for the court,” said Senate President Stephen Sweeney on Tuesday.
In fact, Christie’s merely trying to restore balance to a court that’s been hopelessly liberal for a generation — issuing rulings that have sent Jersey property taxes soaring, created new perks for public-employee unions and generally imposed policies that even liberal legislators wouldn’t dare support.
And state Senate Democrats have refused to even consider letting the two-term governor reshape the court.
It’s far, far more egregious than the standoff in Washington — Republicans there would never dare leave a high-court seat empty for six years.
And, unlike Obama, Christie’s not even in his last year in office.
