It’s time for Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon to step up to the plate and change the name of the Mets’ new ballpark to Gil Hodges Field (“Mets Say It’s $till Citi Field,” Dec. 3).

Otherwise, their organization will remain in the shadows of their cross-town rivals who play at Yankee Stadium.

Is Wilpon kidding? As the Mets’ chief operating officer, he should certainly be aware of the sources of the current financial-institution crisis.

If Wilpon thinks this situation is not Citigroup’s fault, then whose fault is it?

Wilpon should seek out the nearest fifth-grader who will, I am sure, be able to explain to him why Citigroup’s problem is Citigroup’s fault.

Wilpon says that “It’s not really Citi’s fault that they’re in this problem. There are a lot of other banks in the same situation.”

This is the same guy who, after two September collapses, gave Omar Minaya a four-year deal.

I guess accountability counts for nothing in Wilpon’s world.
