I see that workers’ pay isn’t the only thing that Stella D’Oro has been cutting back (“A Sweet Victory,” July 1).

I was wondering what was happening at Stella D’Oro because its products have noticeably deteriorated over the past few years to the point where I do not even consider buying them anymore.

Have you seen or tasted the Swiss Fudge cookies these days? Now I know why: new ownership and corporate greed. Welcome to a modern-day America on its way to extinction.

Kudos to the striking employees, who had the audacity to demand their hourly wage of $17. The company should be ashamed of not paying these employees double that wage, never mind less than that.

Even at $17 an hour, let me know where in NYC that kind of wage can pay the rent, let alone support a family.
