Thank you for your breakdown of the nearly $20,000 per year we spend to educate each student in New York City (“Doesn’t Add Up,” Raymond J. Keating, PostScript, April 11).

I would rather try to hold parents and students accountable for their use of these huge amounts of public funds.

If kids fail, drop out or simply choose not to attend class, why aren’t we sending their parents a bill?

Why is it that the only people who are accountable for anything these days are taxpayers?
