Gas price-gouging isn’t as bad as it was. But drivers are still being cheated.
According to the AAA, the price of regular gas is now down to an average of $2.59 a gallon. It jumped to $2.80 a gallon after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and temporarily knocked out some refineries.
But even with gas at $2.59, motorists are paying well above the pre-hurricane level of $2.37 a gallon in August.
There’s no “peak driving season” right now to justify higher prices. And there’s no shortage — quite the contrary, there is too much gasoline waiting to be burned.
While we’re all waiting for a federal tax cut, it would be nice to see regulators force gas stations not to cheat us at the pump.
