“New York on the Block” (Julia Vitullo-Martin, PostScript, Nov. 29) contains inaccurate comments regarding West Park Presbyterian Church and its dealings with Friends of West Park, a neighborhood group that was formed to raise money to repair our crumbling church. It should be noted that Julia Vitullo-Martin is not a disinterested party. Her husband, Tom, was executive director of FWP. Vitullo-Martin writes that our congregation “rebuffed” FWP “in favor of a demolition and development of a 21-story tower.” In fact, our congregation worked closely with FWP for nearly a year. FWP’s proposal was ultimately rejected because it failed to preserve the historic look of our church. The current proposal preserves more than 85% of the church’s beautiful exterior and the demolition of only the church house.

Rev. Dr. Robert L. Brashear, Pastor, West Park Church, Manhattan
