THE ISSUE: The indictment of Roger Clemens for alleged perjury in testimony to Congress.
***
I’m no fan of Roger Clemens, but this case against him is a total joke (“Stripe Three!” Aug. 20).
These same members of Congress, who routinely lie to the American people about legislation that affects millions of lives, want to put this man in jail for what — allegedly lying about taking steroids?
Big deal.
This is more proof that term limits should be enforced for all politicians.

Let me get this straight: A congressman in charge of legislating taxes cheats on his taxes and faces a slap on the wrist.
A guy who plays baseball lies to Congress about steroids and can face 30 years in jail.
Are you kidding me?
Roger Clemens did nothing to the American people; he hurt himself. Rep. Charlie Rangel misused the public faith and corrupted his position.
Who deserves more punishment?

If Clemens is being charged with perjury — and rightly so — then why weren’t those clowns from the tobacco companies charged ?
They testified before Congress, under oath, that cigarette smoking is not a danger to your health.
That is much more dangerous than Clemens taking steroids.

Clemens lied to Congress. Everybody lies to Congress. Congress lies to everybody.
Congressmen lie to congressmen. Republicans lie to Democrats, and vice versa.
So what is big news about poor, dumb Clemens?
If he goes to jail, they all should go to jail.

Clemens faces 30 years in prison for allegedly lying to Congress, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gets a free pass on allegedly lying to the public about conversations with the CIA.
Equal treatment?
Something smells in the House. It’s time for a clean sweep this November.

If lying in Congress is a crime, why aren’t all congressmen and senators in jail?

Clemens faces 30 years for lying at a congressional hearing and Rangel faces, at most, expulsion from Congress, a most unlikely scenario.
How many other congressmen have lied before Congress?
If Clemens were an elected official, he’d only get a slap on the wrist, too.

It’s no surprise that Clemens is a charter member of the ABC Club: A-Rod, Bonds, Clemens.
They are cheaters who put their own personal and financial gain above everything else, including the youth of America, who look up to them as heroes and role models.
The fact that they expect us to believe their lies and excuses is an example of their arrogance, which they have no trouble exhibiting every step of the way!

Doesn’t the federal grand-jury system have more important fish to fry?
Roger Clemens listened to his lawyers’ poor advice, but he should never have opened his mouth.
Why destroy another icon?
