‘High’ anxiety
The article on growth-hormone use was clearly written with an agenda of mocking the rich parents and students at Dalton, particularly by referring to its use as “doping up” (“Kids Dope Up To Get ‘High’,” Oct. 18)
Here are the facts: Growth-hormone injections, Humatrope, are given to a child who either produces none or too little of the hormone, which causes very slow growth. It is no different than giving insulin or thyroid hormone to a person who does not produce enough. Every medication has its abusers, but for those who lack sufficient growth hormone, Humatrope just affects a height that falls within the spectrum for children of his or her age.
