I WAS KIDDING!
My letter that ran last week about the rescue of Capt. Richard Phillips was an attempt to parody liberals (“Memo to All Pirates,” April 18).
I used the flawed liberal argument against force, suggesting that talking to our enemies would solve the problem. I asked how we knew that the pirates really meant Phillips harm just because they were pointing guns at him, again to illustrate the liberal reluctance to act preemptivly.
I gave the pirates a less offensive name, maritime repossessors, in a sarcastic response to liberal behavior. Unfortunately, some readers did not understand the sarcasm. Rest assured, those are not my true views.
