Despite initial fears about the Department of Transportation’s Broadway plazas in Midtown, the Times Square Alliance found the new temporary pedestrian zones to be a surprise hit among space-starved workers (“Idiotic DOT Takes a Walk on the Wild Side,” Steve Cuozzo, Nov. 13).

They were heavily used at midday, supported by the adjacent retailers, and traffic impact, anecdotally at least, has been minimal. For those of us in Times Square who are used to having to walk in the street for lack of good pedestrian space, these plazas are a clear step in the right direction.
