It takes a parent
Finally, a column that alludes to, albeit faintly, the fact that parents’ involvement in their children’s education and enrichment is key to their success (“Heading Off ‘Learning Loss,’ ” Bill Maxwell, PostOpinion, July 13).
Bill Maxwell points to the fact that if parents encourage reading in their families, their children become engaged and interested learners. This is a fact that has been known to NYC public-school teachers for generations. Now that school’s closed for two months, parents can’t blame teachers for their children’s disinterest.
