IT’S RAINING LAWSUITS
Wisdom from the New York bench!
Who would ever believe it?
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Joan Madden didn’t merely throw out a nuisance lawsuit last week: She made sure the attorney who brought the case would remember it in the most important place possible – his wallet.
Midtown restaurateur Nello Balan sued supermodel Le Call for $1 million, asserting that a Jean-Paul Gaultier umbrella he lent her was returned broken.
On Friday, Madden called the suit a “waste of judicial resources” – and fined Balan’s lawyer $500 for filing a frivolous claim.
Good for her.
This was a case tailor-made for Judge Judy – and it’s not hard to imagine the hilarity the case would have generated in that venue.
Just what it deserved, in other words.
