I just read The Post’s editorial announcing the retirement of one of its best reporters and the main reason that I read The Post every day (“The Dunleavy Difference,” Oct. 3).
Steve Dunleavy is a no-nonsense reporter.
As a cop, I always admired Dunleavy for his articles on New York’s Finest. After some tragic event involving the NYPD, it meant a lot to read his column and know that some people still looked at things objectively and didn’t run to crucify the police.
Dunleavy, I salute you. May you enjoy your retirement, even though I will miss reading your articles.
You will live on in the hearts and minds of the people of New York City forever.

During all the years Dunleavy reported for and submitted his reasoned ideas and columns to The Post, most of his readers knew that even though he was a transplanted Australian, at heart he felt, believed and acted like most native New Yorkers.
His fair, earthy sentiments and crusty head shot will be missed and difficult to replace.
