Your statement that chess champ Bobby Fischer’s declaration that “the object is to crush the other man’s mind” is a “sign of a disturbed personality” is wrong (“Bobby Fischer, 1943-2008,” Editorial, Jan. 19).

It is commonplace among chess players to seek to devastate and humiliate their opponents over the chessboard.

Unlike Fischer, most pawnpushers do not hate America or espouse anti-Semitic venom.
