Will you forgive us for being more amused than outraged that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is selling $58 “Tax the Rich” sweatshirts?

New York’s most famous Democratic Socialist clearly embraces all the slogans on her new line of apparel, from “Abolish ICE” to “Drink water & don’t be racist.” And she is the mother of the Green New Deal, so why shouldn’t she sell her bourgeois fans an organic GND baby onesie ($25) or dog collar ($17)?

Plus, she did mark the sweatshirts down from $65 after Twitter started calling her a hypocrite.

Yes, the swag reeks of materialism, which socialists are supposed to detest (unless it’s scientific materialism!) — but, hey, she only raked in $17.3 million in donations this last campaign cycle and that’s hardly enough to remake America. If the folks with the spare cash to waste on this stuff want to pay her so they can push her ideology — well, it’s OK to exploit the rich, right?

Heck, Lenin himself spoke of capitalists selling their enemy the rope to hang them with. He’d probably smile on AOC’s trademark commodification of Democratic Socialism.
