When a promising college student undergoes routine knee surgery and is left severely brain-damaged because the anesthesiologist inserts the breathing tube in the wrong place, he deserves fair compensation (“The Sharks vs. the Gov.” Editorial, March 21).

If the Medicaid Redesign Team and The Post had their way, this young man would be limited to $250,000 for a lifetime of devastating pain and suffering.

The State Bar Association’s opposition to capping non-economic damages in these lawsuits has nothing to do with legal fees — but everything to do with holding doctors accountable and what is right and fair for those whose losses are incalculable.

Stephen P. Younger, President, New York State Bar Association, Albany
