The Issue: Progressives oppose MTA plan to hire 500 new officers because it would unfairly target minorities.
It’s another example of the bizarre world of New York City politics that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Queens/Bx.) and other ultra-progressive charlatans would advocate in 2019 for fewer police on city subways (“Squad’s ‘safety’ protest,” April 17).
It’s an abomination. Who must rely on this system? It’s apparent —the very same people these pols inculcate with a continuous stream of anti-police propaganda.
Will it ever stop?

AOC and her lefty friends remind me of an old joke that has become reality. What is the difference between a conservative and a liberal? A conservative is just a liberal who’s been mugged.
Despite the fact that no one is safe underground, regardless of race or ethnicity, AOC et al. oppose the MTA hiring more police to suppress the violence. She claims more cops would somehow threaten the poor and harm the community. Very soon there will be no one riding the rails but the poor who can’t afford a cab or Uber.
Those she pretends to protect by begging for fewer police officers will only be victimized more.

How many years has it been since AOC rode the NYC subway? Shouldn’t she actually ride on one before trying to stop extra police? Maybe one day her voters will wake up and get rid of her.

AOC needs to pull her head out of the sand, get out of her Tesla and get down to the subway on a daily basis. With the recent surge in violent crime, subway ridership has again taken a downward turn.
Let’s address the facts of mental illness and get these people taken care of, as the previous administration professed it would.
Mayor Adams is going in the right direction despite being held up by bureaucrats who are out of touch with the daily commuter. Assign more police and enforce the laws we have to bring a safe subway back to a great city.

It is astounding and even fanatical that AOC and her “squad” would promote crime by insisting that the “racial disparity” — i.e., criminality — be relieved by opposing more police on trains.
This is akin to a baseball player who is unable to hit a curveball demanding the elimination of the use of a curveball. Problem solved! Seriously?
How insane it is to completely disregard the safety of millions of straphangers in the name of the false god called “equity.”

It’s not surprising at all that AOC would oppose the hiring of 500 MTA cops to patrol our subways and keep us all safe.
I expect nothing less. It is AOC, her fellow progressives and their socialist agenda that have infected the Democrat Party to the extent that it is paralyzed from doing anything to help average New Yorkers.
Until Democrats are willing to turn their backs on the progressives who now control their party, not much will happen to improve quality-of-life issues in New York City.

There can be no more striking example of the feckless hypocrisy of New York’s Democrats on crime and safety issues than the 2019 letter by members of Congress like AOC & Co.
These supposed “leaders” protested against the MTA hiring 500 new police officers to patrol the subways because that would somehow be “racist.” Minimizing police presence in our subways encourages criminals to commit violent crimes.
