The Issue: Andrew Cuomo’s commutation of the life sentence of a man involved in the 1981 Brink’s heist.

I was working as a pharmacist in Nyack the afternoon of Oct. 20, 1981 (“Cuo’s ‘final act of betrayal,’ ” Aug. 25).

I witnessed first-hand the terror of our delivery driver when she returned to the store after being on Route 59 with bullets whizzing by the car. Her hyperventilated screaming will haunt me the rest of my days.

For her to witness the shooting in person was unspeakably cruel. Many others observed the crime in person, and their lives and the lives of family and friends who were traumatized that day were changed forever.

The Parole Board members should consider this before they render a decision to pardon a criminal sentenced to life without parole as a political favor to a failed deviant governor.

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s commutation of this life sentence comes as no surprise.

His appointment of liberals to the state Parole Board resulted in a conga-line of killers (cop-killers included) set free. Cuomo has got to be the most pro-criminal chief executive of a state in US history.

His endorsement of every lenient proposal for the handling of felons as well as his stubborn opposition to the death penalty should be his lasting legacy.

Saying, “shame on you,” is a waste. He is shameless. Instead, shame on the voters of New York, for mindlessly electing him to the governorship multiple times.

During the final hours of his tarnished governorship, Cuomo commuted the sentence of David Gilbert.

In 1981, as a member of the domestic terrorist group the Weather Underground, Gilbert joined the ambush of two Nyack police officers and a Brinks guard.

The corrupt Cuomo’s “merciful act” may allow Gilbert to go home to see his son, Chesa Boudin, the radical district attorney of San Francisco, while showing no respect for the fallen officers, who will never again go home to their families.

In a final middle finger to law enforcement, Cuomo commuted the sentence of a terrorist.

Cops know he despises them and what they stand for. Anyone who thinks that he has anything but distain for the police is delusional.

For all those killed and injured in the 1981 Brinks robbery: Some of us will never forget.

The Issue: Karol Markowicz’s column arguing against forcing people to get the COVID vaccine.

I agree with the general thesis of Karol Markowicz’s article on vaccine mandates being cruel, not to mention the hypocrisy of those who use COVID as a political and ideological weapon (“Cruel Medicine,” PostOpinion, Aug. 24).

However, I do find some of her statements — “Scientists now believe herd immunity is out of reach” and “the virus is here to stay” — very troubling.

If we can control or eradicate smallpox and measles, why can’t we do the same with COVID?

This narrative feeds into and fuels the worst kind of conspiracy theories about the virus, its origins and vaccinations. People need clarity and truth, not Faucian Newspeak.

Thank you to Karol Markowicz, who eloquently described this pandemic as the political tool that it is.

The virus is here to stay. Why have we not been this “proactive” about the seasonal flu, which kills tens of thousands annually?
