The Issue: Mayor-elect Eric Adams’ choice of Keechant Sewell for the next police commissioner.
I wish Keechant Sewell the best. She sounds like a fine choice and someone who’ll have the NYPD’s back and those of law-abiding citizens of New York City (“Meet the commish,” Dec. 15).
I’m welcoming the change to One Police Plaza and to City Hall.
We have had eight years of a disaster with Mayor de Blasio and his police commissioners.
We need leadership, and I wish Sewell and Mayor-elect Eric Adams much success.

Excellent choice by Adams for police commissioner.
The last few commissioners seem to have taken the job to boost their pensions and leave after a year or so with nary an accomplishment.
Sewell is only 49 years old. Hopefully she is in for the long haul.

Kudos to Adams in his choice of a police commissioner. Sewell has New York City roots, which is an asset as well. She seems realistic and focused.
However, her greatest challenge, along with the mayor, is to restore the trust and confidence of the men and women doing the job every day.
Police across the nation have been defunded and demonized. Proactive policing, showing initiative and following your instincts, have been shut down for fear of controversy and the loss of their livelihood.
Police need to feel they will not be sacrificial lambs for doing their jobs in good faith. Their current state of mind needs to reversed through good leadership and support. Something they have not had for the last eight years.

The best of luck to Sewell in being named commissioner of the NYPD.
Sewell has a leg up on her two predecessors by having the full faith and support of her boss, Eric Adams, who has consistently said the right things about addressing the rampant crime situation left by de Blasio.
Sewell’s resume shows she is ready for the job. Having a boss who will not “throw her under the bus” is an added bonus.

Congratulations to the new police commissioner, Keechant Sewell.
I truly hope she has the ability to lead the brave women and men of the NYPD and the fortitude to stand up for them.
The only thing I find troubling is that Adams restricted his search for the new commissioner to females of color. Wouldn’t the most prudent search be for the most qualified candidate? Hopefully he made the right choice for the good of the city and not as part of a political agenda.

The announcement by Adams that he has named Sewell as the next NYPD commissioner is so very welcome.
We hope that she will fully support the 36,000 men and women in blue as they do their jobs of keeping our city safe, and that she will reinstitute the anti-crime unit, which was disbanded by former Police Commissioner Dermot Shea under pressure from our thankfully soon-to-be ex-mayor, as well as the City Council.
It is high time that respect for our police officers be restored fully throughout this city.
Their job is one of high risk, and all New Yorkers should fully support their efforts and valor.
Sewell has her work cut out for her, and we hope that she will be successful as she begins her new job.

Picking a female for commissioner is a change of pace for the NYPD.
We hope she doesn’t kowtow to the Democratic regime that has destroyed our city.
It will be a tough chore getting this mess cleaned up, but all you have to do is undo everything de Blasio ordered.
Get those anti-crime units back in action. That’d be a start to getting crime down in our tattered city.
