Martha’s jail goods
Only in our depraved era can someone like Martha Stewart successfully monetize the fact that she is a convicted felon by hawking artwork that she made in prison (“Martha’s yuletide jail sell,” Dec. 21).
At one time, public figures, just like anyone else, were ashamed if they had a criminal history. Now they brag about and profit from it.
I don’t know who is more deranged, Stewart or the people who buy the souvenirs that she made while serving time in “camp.”

Cut off China
China’s human-rights abuses, along with its utter lack of transparency concerning the origins of COVID-19, its jingoistic posture toward Taiwan and its goal of world dominance, leaves no ambiguity that it should be treated by the United States and the international community as a pariah nation (“Hidden hell of China’s labor camps,” Dec. 20).
If President Biden had any moral backbone, he would cancel US participation in the Beijing Olympics and utilize every available measure to pressure Communist China to curtail its aggression.

Cop-killer released
The New York Parole Board has made another sickening decision by releasing cop-killer Darryl Jeter (“ ‘A Blow To Every Cop,’ ” Dec. 20).
Jeter murdered Officer Irma Lozada and left her body in a vacant lot amid weeds and garbage.
The Parole Board has no compassion for murder victims, especially when they wear a police uniform. This decision is a slap in the face of every law officer in the state.
Lozada will never go home, and Jeter should never go home. Jeter sentenced Lozada to a term of eternity and he should spend eternity in prison. The punishment should fit the crime.

NYers’ split south
Your article on the shrinking New York was very interesting (“NY Shrinking,” E.J. McMahon, Dec. 23).
However, as a life-long New Yorker, I am seeing so many of my peers moving out of state, not because of the pandemic but the violence.
If you read the states that are losing population, all are Democratic-run states. The progressives and their leftist agenda have left the tax-paying middle class at risk for violence and crime like never before.
New Yorkers are moving down South to Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina, where they are safe from bail reform and the random violence that came with defunding the police and Democrats who believe they are doing “good.”
We are a very strong city and have survived blackouts, floods and saw the worst and best of humanity on 9/11.
However, everyone has a breaking point. High rents, high taxes, bail reform, mayors and political idiots who don’t have a clue how to run a city as well as lying about the violence are sending the hard-working New Yorkers away.

Trump’s AG suit
Former President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against Attorney General Letitia James is just his latest attempt to avoid prosecution and stay out of jail (“Trump Sues Tish,” Dec. 21).
If he has been conducting his businesses legally all of these years, then he has nothing to worry about — which is why he is so worried.
Citizens of our country are expected to live by the rule of law. This includes rich people, especially those whose fortunes were ill-gotten.
