Brava, Julia Vitullo-Martin. I’m sure you’ve noticed that there are no more Italian neighborhoods (“New York’s Lost Italian Heritage,” PostOpinion, Oct. 8).

What happened to Bensonhurst, The Bronx and Little Italy?

Signs in foreign languages can be found all over the city, but none are in Italian.

If the Italians are gone, let’s at least save the memory in Greenwich Village.

Vitullo-Martin hits the nail on the head when she says that it will take more than just landmarking to save the South Village and neighborhoods like it.

That is why we are fighting to abolish the special zoning bonus that is currently afforded to universities like NYU to build extra-large dorms, student centers and law-school buildings in our neighborhood.

But make no mistake: Landmarking is also essential for keeping a unique, historic neighborhood like ours from becoming the Upper East Side.
