I was interested to note that Sen. Chuck Schumer has a new cause (“Tap Our Sap, IHOP: Chuck,” May 5).

The economy is in a meltdown, unemployment is rising, we are all about to get the flu and Pakistan, India, Iraq, Iran, North Korea and Venezuela are trouble spots.

But Chuck has a cause. He wants IHOP to use New York maple syrup. Are there a lot of out-of-work maple sap harvesters in New York?

With all the aforementioned problems facing this planet, is this the most important thing he has to do?

I’m glad I moved out of New York.
