Your article on the “evolutionary proof” that humans are not programmed to be monogamous is full of nonsense (“Our Cheating Hearts,” Maureen Callahan, PostScript, Aug. 1).

I believe that we are somewhat better than the other primates. In the country where I was born, unhappiness was expressed as “I feel like a monkey.”

I’ve been married to just one woman for 48 years. There is nothing better than to love and be loved, meaning to seek the happiness of the other. It is not always easy, but the end result is worth the effort.

I still remember when Elizabeth Taylor married her third husband. She said that it was her last chance to be happy.
