THE ISSUE: Singer, talk-show host and “Jeopardy” creator Merv Griffin’s death at age 82.

Thanks to Merv Griffin and all of his contributions to American television (“H’Wood Mourns TV Great Merv,” Aug. 13).

He and his great smile will be missed.

I’m saddened by the passing of entertainment mogul Griffin.

I remember seeing him as a vocalist with the Freddy Martin orchestra at the Rainbow Room, high atop Rockefeller Plaza, in the heyday of the Big Band era.

It amazes me that later on he was responsible for developing two of the longest-running family entertainment TV shows, “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune,” which are still running.

Griffin will be missed, and I, for one, am grateful that he didn’t cave in to the sleazy TV fare currently pervading the airwaves.
