It’s not surprising to read the cynical Michael Walsh, talking to a cynical readership, postulating the cynicism of Mitt Romney (“Having It Both Ways,” PostOpinion, June 6). Were Walsh not so shallow, he might note Romney’s ability to speak extemporaneously for over an hour on how he came to be pro-life and his soul-searching rediscovery of human rights as innate, divine endowments, as articulated in the Declaration of Independence.

Romney realizes that both human rights and moral responsibilities are not capricious political inventions. We need a president with an honorable vision.
