Surely The Post’s editorial, “Another MTA Warning Signal,” (July 30) about the failure of card readers in MTA vending machines, is a bit tongue-in-cheek.

The MTA has a rich tradition of doing little well and nothing efficiently.

Allowing the MTA to embark on major capital projects when it cannot properly maintain and operate the assets it has today is sheer folly.

Where, oh where, will the operating budget come from for an even larger system? And the question nobody is prepared to answer: Who ultimately will pay for it?

Let’s face it – the real error in judgment is allowing the MTA to continue to operate our transit systems.
