When it comes to reporting on increasing taxes (“2% Property Tax Hike in Nassau? Try 16%,” Oct. 6), The Post wrongfully blamed Nassau County for school property-tax increases.

Nassau uses the same assessment roll that schools use to calculate a property’s tax share. Yet it’s the school portion of the tax bill that increases.

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano froze property taxes for the past two years and proposes the same freeze for 2013.

Simply stated, school spending is out of control and causing taxes to skyrocket. School budgets lack transparency, as they fail to reveal their estimated tax rates and the average tax increases that will result upon passing them. Jim Davis
