The Issue: How America should respond to reports that Syria has used chemical weapons on its people.

***

Can you imagine the whining and hand-wringing that the usual suspects — liberals, the United Nations, etc. — would be doing if George W. Bush were president and 70,000 people were slaughtered by their own government (“O’s Time of Testing,” John Podhoretz, PostOpinion, April 26)?

But since His Majesty Lord Obama is president, all you hear are crickets chirping.

The left doesn’t care about people. It only cares about wedge issues and how it can use them against conservatives. It wouldn’t care if a million people were killed by a nuclear bomb as long as Obama was president. You would hear them cry to do something or to send money, because, to them, money solves all problemsCharlie Honadel

The usual suspects — Sen. John McCain, Sen. Lindsey Graham, the Obama administration and the UN — want us to be in a dither because Syria’s regime crossed some ill-defined and perpetually shifting red line when it used chemical weapons on its own people.

In other words, yet another regime that despises America, its people and everything we stand for has used weapons of mass destruction against other Muslims who despise us just as much.

How is this news supposed to affect me?

Syria’s crossing of this red line can only mean one thing to our political elite: The American people will have to throw even more money at these ungrateful Syrians on the slim chance that they’ll let go of their mindless, indiscriminate hatred and inhumanity and start liking us.
