THE ISSUE: Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s threats to deny funding for extra troops in Iraq.

The day House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took over and said that it’s time to responsibly redeploy, meaning surrender, was truly a sad one for this country (“A Democratic Congress,” Editorial, Jan 5).

Pelosi told every terrorist what he wanted hear.

It’s a shame that these Democrats don’t seem to care what the men and women in the field think and that they want to return to the same foreign policy that didn’t work in the ’90s. God help this country.

Pelosi, with her giddy “coronation” antics, would want us to believe that she is the first woman in an important political position. She should be reminded that Jeane Kirkpatrick, Condoleezza Rice, Margaret Thatcher, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and many others have “been there, done that” long ago.

A woman uses her purse to hold a myriad of different things. Apparently, there is no money in Pelosi’s purse, at least none to fund additional U.S. troops in Iraq.

I am glad that at least someone has the courage to stand up to President Bush.
