THE ISSUE: Pres. Obama’s hosting Chinese President Hu Jintao on his first US trip since 2006.
* Jonah Goldberg observes that “Beijing’s Still Not Ready To Lead” (PostScript, Jan. 20), which may be so, but the real problem is that President Obama is all too willing to follow China’s lead, particularly in implementing so-called reforms that just mean more government control over folks’ lives.

* While Obama kowtows to Chinese President Hu Jintao, China is stabbing us in the back.
The products we get from China are pure junk. From poison in dog food to lead in children’s toys, our president continues to deal with a country that wishes we would do away with the dollar and incorporate Chinese currency.
While we disarm our nation, China is building its military to levels so high that it doesn’t take a professor to see what’s going on.
Obama needs to go back to school and take a course in American history to remind him of how this country became the greatest nation in the world.

* What exactly is the message we are sending China?
Here’s the biggest criminal enterprise in the world, chowing down on lobster and steak. China’s restrictive trade policies make it impossible for American businesses to make a buck. If China truly seeks to be a world partner, let it start acting like one.

* Hu probably came to the United States to “remind” Obama that China holds 11 percent of our debt, has a multi-billion dollar trade surplus with us and is expanding its military exponentially.
Having told all who will listen that we are on the decline, Obama should have been really nervous about his meeting with Hu.

* Good for House Speaker John Boehner and other Republicans for not attending a dinner for a dictator.
Hopefully, in 2013, we will have a Reagan-like president in the White House who will renew our shining light on the hill, return us to our superpower status and be respected for our exceptionalism around the world.

* Because of the trade disparity, which puts billions in the Chinese government’s pocket, and technological advances, the Chinese could at a moment’s notice take back Taiwan or any other country it has designs on.
What do you think Obama’s response would be? Outrage and a fiery speech at the United Nations, while China, North Korea and Iran laugh up their sleeves.
