RACE & REPUBLICANS
I disagree with Colin Powell’s assertion that the GOP is insensitive toward minorities (“Powell Rips Soto’s GOP Racial Foes,” July 6). Perhaps Powell should go back and look at the GOP’s storied and rich history toward minorities. The Democratic Party and its lackeys have done a brilliant job in taking ownership of the GOP’s accomplishments in the civil-rights movement.
Powell’s ascension to the national stage was due to the fact that a Republican thought he was good enough to be there, and many Republicans thought well enough of his abilities that they kept him around. Show me the minorities whom Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Carter or Clinton trusted enough to elevate to these positions of power.
