I did not intend my comments in “S.I. Pol Slapped for Petit Rhyme” (May 2) to reflect a criticism of the New York City Department of Investigation.

I believe DOI acted in an appropriate manner and with the utmost integrity, and I am grateful for DOI’s thorough and fair work.

I believe the anonymous letter that spurred the investigation was politically motivated, but it was not my intention to intimate that DOI’s process was politically motivated.

My comments were not a criticism of DOI’s role, which was to investigate the allegations and pass on factual findings to the Conflicts of Interest Board.

I am pleased the COIB recommended no fine and a complete closure of this matter, and I look forward to continuing to serve the people of my district.
