I applaud Irving Kirsch for highlighting what is clearly a gargantuan money-making apparatus at the expense of the American people: the pharmaceutical-industrial complex (“The Sad Reality,” PostScript, Jan. 24).

It is disgusting to see so many people are misdiagnosed in order to placate the greedy corporations that supply them with useless pills. These make the problem worse because the cure to depression can be usually be found in a healthier diet and a more active lifestyle.

Americans are foolish, finding neuro-chemical imbalances behind every little negative thought and seeking easy ways to address psychological issues, making them excellent victims for this deception.
