Scot-tsk
Rob Waugh’s article, “Scot Free” (PostScript, May 29), contains many wrong observations.
Alex Salmond did not arrive at the Scottish parliament in a helicopter — he landed at a hotel outside Edinburgh.
He was not greeted by hooting fans draped in flags, kilts and tam o’ shanter hats, and no one had blue-painted faces. Salmond was greeted with a warm, restrained reception and spoke from a dais with one Scottish flag flying.
It was the UK government, not the SNP, that organized the 1997 referendum, and this Scottish parliament has a five-year term.
Finally, the SNP does not have a huge majority in the Scottish parliament — only an eight-seat advantage.
