A torrent of God’s and Heaven’s blessings should rain down upon Maureen Callahan for one of the most touching and educational articles I have read in a very long time (“The Dogs of War,” PostScript, Feb. 13).

All in favor of a national holiday to honor the “Dogs of War,” hound your congressmen.

I support our great military but am very confused as to how they can love dogs so much, yet brutalize pigs, sheep and many other animals during trauma-training exercises. This torture becomes especially confusing and unacceptable considering the availability of human simulators used by the militaries of many other countries.

James Scotto, Manhattan

Thank you for a wonderful and uplifting story about “the Dogs of War.”

It seems such a small thing to allow the dogs to return with the men and woman who have received comfort and, in some cases, protection from them.

It is both human and humane and should be part of the courtesy and thank you that these brave fighters deserve. It is a debt that our government owes and is a small price to pay.
